We analyse all types of biological samples for drugs and poisons employing a targeted approach specific to the case submitted. In cases of sudden unexpected death we undertake one of the widest screens for toxic drugs and chemicals of any laboratory in the UK.

We have expertise in the analysis of samples taken following suspected drug facilitated sexual assaults (DFSA) or “spiked drinks”. In these cases we offer testing for a comprehensive panel of sedatives, narcotics and commonly abused drugs that might be utilised to incapacitate a victim.

Uniquely, we have the ability to analyse for late eliminating glucuronide metabolites that may extend the window of detection for some drugs. Comprehensive drugs of abuse assays are also routinely undertaken and we have expertise to determine the newer generation synthetic compounds, so called designer drugs.

Aware of the pressures on the Coronial system and the urgency for answers to satisfy bereaved relatives, we provide a high quality, cost-effective and professional service dedicated to HM Coroners. We understand and respond to the requirement for fast turnaround of results and we ensure that we deliver to a high standard, whilst maintaining a flexible approach that varying and often complex casework demands.

We pride ourselves on the strength of our working relationships with HM Coroners’ Officers and Pathologists, which facilitate analysis and assist in the interpretation of results.

We regularly provide evidence at Inquests and Court as an Expert Witness and our toxicologists have been involved in many well publicised cases.
